Avila, inspired by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, embraces the inherent worth and potential of every individual. We foster a community built on inclusion, understanding, and peace through initiatives such as the Buchanan Initiative for Peace and Nonviolence, exhibitions at the Thornhill Gallery, and campus programs like the Avila Community Food Pantry and Eagles Aware. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where you can focus on both your education and personal growth.

At Avila, we are dedicated to delivering an exceptional educational experience. With 70 percent of our accomplished faculty holding Ph.D.'s or the highest degrees in their fields, students benefit from real-world expertise in the classroom. Our small class sizes promote personalized learning, while resources like the Center for Student Excellence and the Learning Commons provide academic support to help students overcome challenges and thrive.

Service is at the heart of Avila’s mission, guided by the Sisters of St. Joseph's commitment to serving the dear neighbor without distinction. Each year, our students dedicate over 140,000 hours to community service, while our faculty, staff, and alumni actively engage with various philanthropic organizations. With numerous student groups focused on community service, you will have abundant opportunities to make a meaningful impact and serve alongside the dear neighbor. As part of Avila’s commitment to service, students must complete 15 hours of community service each academic year as a requirement for graduation. Students volunteer at organizations like local food banks, shelters, and community centers to compete this service requirement. To learn more about this service course, click here.

Our student body reflects the rich cultural diversity of community. Over 31 percent of our students are first-generation college attendees, alongside international students from around the world, contributing to Avila's welcoming atmosphere. Organizations such as the Avila Ambassadors, Black Student Union, Society of Latinos, and International Student Organization provide opportunities for self-expression and leadership development, offering inclusive spaces for all students to thrive.

Grounded in the liberal arts, our curriculum cultivates a holistic education that promotes intellectual, ethical, and personal growth. Through initiatives like the First-Year Experience seminar and interdisciplinary studies, we empower students with the critical thinking skills and adaptability essential for professional success and lifelong learning.

Inspired by the values of respect and generosity instilled by the Sisters of St. Joseph, we prioritize strong and healthy relationships within our campus community. We are also dedicated to environmental stewardship, implementing sustainability initiatives and a robust recycling program to care for our planet.
