STEM OPT Eligibility for Avila University Arizona Programs

A Pathway to Extended Career Opportunities

Graduates of Avila University Arizona's STEM-designated programs, including the MSc in Technology Management and STEM-focused MBA, are eligible to apply for up to 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the U.S. OPT provides international students with the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience in their field of study upon completing their degree program.

  1. Obtain a recommendation: Request an OPT recommendation from the Designated School Official (DSO).
  2. Submit Form I-765: Complete and submit Form I-765 to USCIS, along with the required application fee, to initiate your OPT application.
  3. Await approval: USCIS will review your application and once approved, they will issue your Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

For comprehensive guidance on the OPT application process, contact our International Student Services office or visit the USCIS OPT page.

All graduate programs at Avila University Arizona, including our MBA and MSc programs, are STEM-designated, providing international students the added benefit of a 24-month STEM OPT Extension.

This extension, granted by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), allows international F-1 visa holders graduating in eligible STEM fields to apply for an additional 24 months of work authorization, on top of the standard 12-month Post-Completion OPT. Available twice in a lifetime, this extension offers students the chance to gain further professional experience in their area of study, significantly boosting their career opportunities in the United States.

At Avila University Arizona, our programs are designed to not only provide students with advanced technical knowledge but also to guide them through the U.S. job market post-graduation. The OPT extension supports a smooth transition from academic to professional success, ensuring graduates are equipped to excel in their fields.

For assistance with the OPT application process or career planning, contact your DSO officer at careerservices@arizona.avila.edu.
