Residency
An in-person academic experience in Goodyear
Residency brings Avila University Arizona graduate students together on our Goodyear campus for focused academic work and professional growth. It is a dedicated time to step into conversation, test ideas, and strengthen relationships that support your success in the program.
What is Residency?
Residency is a required in-person component of your graduate program.
It complements your online coursework by giving you space to:
- Apply concepts in live discussions and collaborative sessions
- Engage directly with faculty
- Participate in leadership and professional development workshops
- Build relationships with classmates
- Connect with campus support teams
What Happens During Residency?
Each residency includes a structured academic agenda, interactive sessions, and time for conversation.
Recent sessions included:
- A welcome and AUA mission conversation led by Dr. Tara Canfield-Weber, Campus Dean
- Professional and academic development sessions with Dr. Tracy Vasquez, Campus Manager
- Campus resource and student support guidance from Sarai Delfin, Designated School Official (DSO)
- Applied learning and collaborative case discussions with Dr. Kevin McGourty, Faculty
Between sessions, students connect over coffee, continue project discussions, and begin relationships that carry into the online classroom.
Why Residency Matters
Residency strengthens your graduate experience in ways that are difficult to replicate online.
Residency helps you:
- Build stronger working relationships with faculty
- Develop professional networks within your cohort
- Gain confidence presenting and refining your ideas
- Connect your coursework to your career goals
- Experience AUA’s mission in a tangible way
Students often say residency shifts their program from independent study to shared progress.
