Most students studying abroad reach a moment when they start thinking about the next stage of their journey. If that’s where you are now, you are in a great position because you already have a strong foundation to build on.
If you are already living and learning in the U.S., you have experience with American classrooms, a record of study inside the country, and the ability to continue your education without starting the process from scratch.
This is where a pathway program becomes a stepping stone to a graduate degree at Avila University Arizona, and it can help you stay on track with your academic and career goals.
How English Pathway Programs Set You Up for Success
English pathway programs do more than improve language skills. They prepare you for the way learning happens in the United States. You build confidence speaking in class. You learn how professors expect you to participate. You practice writing, presenting, and collaborating in a new academic environment.
Most importantly, you learn how to navigate everyday life here. You get comfortable with your surroundings and with the routines that make studying in a new country feel manageable.
By the time you finish your pathway program, you have already done the work that many new students face for the first time. You understand the culture. You know the expectations. You have momentum. Graduate school becomes a natural next step, not a leap into the unknown.
Why Students Already in the U.S. Have an Advantage
Continuing your studies inside the country offers real advantages. Here are a few that matter most:
- You do not need to leave the U.S. for a new visa interview
- You already have a history of academic progress in the U.S.
- You are familiar with the culture, communication style, and learning environment
- You avoid interruptions in your education and your visa status
For many students, this creates a smoother and more predictable path to a graduate degree. Instead of starting over, you build on the progress you have already made.
How the Pathway to AUA Works
The process is simple and designed to keep your studies moving forward.
Step 1: Finish the required level at your English language school or complete your undergraduate program. See a list of AUA’s pathway partners on our Language Requirements page or contact admissions@arizona.avila.edu for further details.
Step 2: Submit your application to Avila University Arizona through the Online Application Portal. The requirements are clear and student friendly.
Step 3: Once you’ve received your admission decision, connect with AUA’s Designated School Official (DSO) to discuss transferring your SEVIS record (dso@arizona.avila.edu). If you are transferring from another U.S. institution, we encourage you to review our SEVIS Transfer Student Information page for a complete list of instructions.
Step 4: Start your graduate program at AUA and continue your education without leaving the country.
Once enrolled, you’ll study in Goodyear, Arizona. It’s a growing city with a welcoming community and a strong job market. It’s also home to major employers in health care, technology, logistics, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and data.
A Practical Path that Opens More Opportunities
Graduate education inside the U.S. can expand your options in several meaningful ways.
- You earn a respected graduate credential
- You extend your time in the U.S. through continued study
- You may qualify for Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation*
- You may qualify for STEM OPT extension if you choose a STEM-designated program*, such as the ones offered at AUA (see the full list of graduate programs here)
- You strengthen your resume with both academic and real-world experience
- You build a professional network in a region full of growing industries
For many pathway students, this is the moment when their time in the U.S. shifts from short term to long term. It becomes a chance to gain experience, develop skills, and create a foundation for their future career.
Why AUA Is a Strong Next Step
Avila University Arizona offers graduate programs designed for students who want a clear route to career growth. Classes are small. Faculty are supportive. Learning spaces are modern and collaborative.
Goodyear itself adds even more value. The city is safe, sunny, and full of opportunity. Major companies operate in the region, and industries like technology, health care, data, and logistics continue to grow. Students have access to internships, projects, and real work environments that match their fields of study.
If you choose one of AUA’s STEM-designated programs, you may be eligible to apply for an extended work authorization period through STEM OPT extension.* This additional time can offer valuable space to gain experience and grow your skills as you begin your career in the United States.
A Path Forward You Can Trust
You already made the journey to study in the U.S. You already adapted, learned, and invested in yourself. Moving into a graduate program at AUA can be the next step that turns all of that effort into long-term momentum.
Whether you began in an English classroom or at a small college across the country, your path does not have to end there. You can continue your studies, stay in status, and keep working toward your goals.
You are already here. You already started. AUA can help you keep going.
*Optional Practical Training (OPT) and STEM OPT extensions are not guaranteed. Approval for OPT and STEM OPT extensions is granted solely by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Students must apply for and receive an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) before beginning any post-completion employment.
Avila University Arizona can support students by providing guidance through the application process. However, the University does not make OPT decisions and cannot influence USCIS processing times or outcomes.
